Monday 30th May 2005, Milan, Italy Via Sarfatti 25 The European Water Framework Directive 2000/60/CE (WFD) aims to achieve a “good ecological status” for surface water, both inland and coastal water, for transitional waters and for groundwater, by:
According to the WFD, public participation is an essential requirement to achieve the correct and complete implementation of the Directive itself. However, how the social actors and interested parties can be identified? Which would be their tasks in the construction of river basin management plans, participatory issued, and therefore effective? How the participatory processes can take place? What has to be expected from their effective functioning? At which stage of the implementation process are we in Italy? The Congress follows a previous meeting regarding the WFD organized in October 2003 by IEFE Bocconi, Gruppo 183 and Legambiente. It aims to:
